Meet Niklas

Niklas was born and raised in Arnsberg, Germany. He graduated with a B.S.in Chemistry from the University of Münster, Germany in 2021, where he worked in Prof. Frank Glorius’ group on automated structure elucidation using GC/MS and machine learning. In his currently ongoing M.S. studies, Niklas also worked with Prof. Kálmán J. Szabó (Stockholm University, Sweden) on asymmetric organocatalytic thiofunctionalizations of allylboronic acids and with Prof. Motomu Kanai (The University of Tokyo, Japan) on syn-selective allylations of aldehydes using unactivated alkenes and ternary chromium/HAT/photoredox hybrid catalysis. Before joining Abby’s group as a visiting graduate researcher in June, he interned at Bayer Pharmaceuticals in Wuppertal, Germany.

Outside of the lab, Niklas likes to cook, spend time with friends and go on hikes to explore new places in nature. In the evening, these explorations shift to places in local pubs.
